The Faith Council

The Faith Council is a group of pupil leaders who help nurture and shape the Catholic life of St Teresa’s. Guided by our mission “With Jesus we live, love and learn,” the Faith Council works with staff, parish and the wider community to ensure our school remains a joyful, prayerful and outward-looking place of faith.

Our Faith Council members are chosen because they demonstrate our core values—Love, Accept, Respect, Reflect—and show a desire to grow as young disciples of Christ. They represent pupil voice in our Catholic life and help all children feel involved in the spiritual life of the school.

What the Faith Council Does

1. Leads Prayer and Worship

Faith Council pupils play a key role in shaping our worship life. They:

  • Help lead Monday whole-school collective worship, including bidding prayers and sending forth messages

  • Support classes in planning their own collective worships

  • Lead prayer intentions that often link to the Gospel and Catholic Social Teaching

2. Promote Catholic Social Teaching (CST) and Charity

The Faith Council helps the school put faith into action by:

  • Organising charity initiatives such as the Harvest Food Drive and Big Lent Walk

  • Leading assemblies that raise awareness of global and local needs

  • Connecting service projects to Scripture and CST principles

  • Encouraging all pupils to see service as part of their discipleship

3. Represent the Voice of Pupils

The Faith Council ensures that every child has a voice in the faith life of the school by:

  • Gathering pupil ideas for worship, displays and service projects

  • Helping evaluate worship using age-appropriate reflection tools

  • Sharing pupil reflections with staff and governors

Examples of Faith Council Impact

Recent highlights include:

  • Designing and presenting a collective worship for the Bishop

  • Launching the Jubilee Year with CAFOD.

  • Leading the Harvest Food Drive, helping local families

  • Supporting the restoration of the Prayer Garden through prayer and reflection activities

  • Leading further charitable efforts throughout the school year.

  • Representing the school at a Jubilee Pilgrimage.

Why the Faith Council Matters

The Faith Council helps pupils:

  • Grow in confidence as young leaders

  • Understand Scripture and Catholic teaching at a deeper level

  • Feel ownership of the spiritual life of the school

  • Live out St Thérèse’s Little Way through kindness and service

  • Learn to pray, plan, reflect and lead with maturity

As one pupil shared:
“When we pray, we help others and bring people closer to God.” (The Catholic Year in Review 2025)

Becoming a Faith Council Member

Each year, pupils from different classes are nominated by their teachers. Members are chosen for:

  • Their kindness and willingness to serve others

  • Their enthusiasm for prayer and worship

  • Their ability to be role models in living our Gospel values

Training and support are provided, ensuring pupils grow not only in responsibility but in faith.
